COMPUTER SIMULATION
See what you can expect from the operation even before it is performedRhinoplasty is a procedure for which computer simulation has become an especially valuable aid. No other operation involves as many adjustable variables: the size of the nose in profile (in proportion to the chin), the length of the nose, nasal projection, the nasolabial angle, dorsal curvature, nasal width, the tip of the nose, turbinate reduction or augmentation. And each patient has his or her own expectations. The patient’s sex and age also play an important role.
The surgeon can also demonstrate just how much change is possible by means of an operation. The patient receives a printout of the simulation to take home with him so that he can become accustomed to his new nose in advance. It is made clear, however, that the demonstrated alterations cannot always be realised with millimetre precision. That is something no surgeon can guarantee.
